Blue Korhaan
Eupodotis caerulescens- Habitat: Grassland and Karoo.
- Diet: Insects, small reptiles and plants.
- Status: Uncommon resident and partly nomadic.
- Calls: Uncommon resident and partly nomadic.
- Similar looking: Karoo Korhaan
- Similar sounding: Ruppells Korhaan but song has two pitch changes not three.
ID pitfalls
The blue belly and hind-neck separates from White-bellied Bustard. Although Ruppells Korhaan has some blue on the neck, its white belly also helps separate
Where to find one
Any flat, healthy grassland should give you a good chance to find Blue Korhaan. Reliable areas include Devon Grasslands, Vrede Grasslands and areas around Harrismith.
